The Polish Women's Alliance of America was founded in 1898 and is an organization with thousands of members.  These members are not only women or Polish.  PWA members represent all ages, walks of life and ethnic groups.  PWA is in the LIFE INSURANCE business, with its Headquarters located in Chicago, IL.  PWA, a fraternal benefit society, uses its profits for charitable purposes.   They support youth activities and college scholarship funds while fostering Polish customs, language and culture.

The Zamek Dance Troupe originated in Detroit in the late '40's, eventually moving the school to Warren.  They toured Poland in the early '70's and did not have a formal name except for Council 20.  When they toured Warsaw, they were amazed with the Royal Castle which was being re-constructed, after being destroyed by the Nazi occupant.  The Castle was eventually rebuilt by the joint effort of the population.  'Zamek' in Polish means 'Castle', so from that day forward, the troupe adopted the name.

Zamek practices every Thursday night at the Polish Cultural Center in Troy (15 Mile and Dequindre).  Enrollment is ages of 2 to Adult.

After a full season of hard work, the troupe presents a beautiful recital of Polish dance, tap, jazz and ballet every spring and then performs at various community functions through out the summer months (including Polish Night at Comerica Park, local parades and ethnic festivals).  Zamek's long standing tradition has been to select and honor a dancer as queen for the year.  After her crowning, she represents the dance troupe at many of the cultural events throughout the year.  This Zamek dance troupe was formed over 62 years ago and have been performing ever since!
